A luxury SUV can be many things to many people. For some, it’s about all-out performance with some utility. For many, it’s about luxury, well-being with added utility. For others yet, it’s all of the above. Infiniti long ago realized the potential of building on its reputation of delivering performance and concentrating on comfort. The new 2020 Infiniti QX50 is all of the above.
Now, comfort is not limited to cushy seats and plenty of elbow room as most other car makers would want you to believe. It’s about ride quality, refinement and beautiful craftsmanship and these are pillars shine though in the new Infiniti QX50. Despite the unrivaled level of design and technology also included with the QX50, it’s important to measure the competition and, as such, let’s compare it to the Audi Q5.
Both of these SUVs rely on smaller displacement turbocharged engines. They are 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engines but despite these similarities, the QX50’s mill features Variable Compression Turbo (VC-Turbo) technology enabling power and efficiency. The output is rated at 268-horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque. The Q5’s 2.0-liter produces 248-horsepower and 273 lb.-ft. of torque. Despite the extra power, the Infiniti consumes only 10.0L/100 km in the city and 7.8L/100km on the highway. In contrast, the Audi needs 10.7L/100km and 8.4L/100km, respectively.
Comfort is also about smoothness. There’s a concept know as shift-shock, or the sensation delivered by gear changes, that you’ll never experience in the 2020 Infiniti QX50. Sending power to the standard Intelligent AWD system is a highly sophisticated continuously variable transmission. The 2020 Audi Q5 calls upon a 7-speed automatic transmission to send power to its AWD system.
Getting more for your money is also related to comfort. The most basic Infiniti QX50 includes must-have items such as remote engine start, INFINITI InTouch with dual display (8-inch upper and 7-inch lower) touchscreen system, 8-way power driver’s seat, 19-inch wheels and a slew of active safety features such as rear automatic braking for less money than the Audi Q5.
Finally, comfort equates in breathing room. All five occupants on board are treated to acres of space to get cozy with. What’s more, your gear will be happy too in the 2020 Infiniti QX50’s 895-liter trunk, considerably larger than the 2020 Audi Q5’s at 710 liters.
Now, all that needs to be done is to drive the QX50.
