2022 Infiniti QX60 vs. the old 2021 QX60: a wave of improvements

2022 Infiniti QX60 vs. the old 2021 QX60: a wave of improvements

Infiniti's QX60 first saw the light of day for the year 2013. It was called JX then, but it changed its name the following year as Infiniti revamped the entire nomenclature of its models.

For 2022, it's getting its first major redesign, and there's a lot to get excited about. As you can guess, the model has been greatly improved. Let's take a look at what has changed most about this absolutely fascinating luxury SUV.

The styling

Infiniti's styling language is unique and easily recognizable. On the road, even novices recognize a product of the company. It's a sign of a strong image. The 2021 QX60 was a very successful looking vehicle, but the bar has been raised a notch with the new model.

In fact, what we see with the new QX60 is the enhanced product signature that will propel us into the future. It joins that of the Inspirations concepts that emerged in 2018 and 2019, while paving the way for the arrival of the first electric models that will draw their "inspiration" from a masterpiece like the QX60.

Luxury

The QX60 has always been a luxury product, but once again, they're pushing the envelope with the new generation. While all versions look good in this regard, the new Autograph livery is the one that makes your eyes glaze over. It features semi-aniline leather surfaces with a quilted finish that adds an undeniable richness to the presentation. Add to that a two-tone presentation and the visual effect is spot on. The open-pore wood trim on the dashboard, combined with the design of the dashboard and the center console, really makes you feel like you're in a higher class vehicle.

To see just how extraordinary it all is, stop by and feel the QX60. You'll be charmed by what you discover.

The transmission

Until last year, the QX60's 3.5-litre V6 engine was mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). It did an excellent job, but there was room for a richer driving experience. That's why the CVT is being replaced by a nine-speed automatic transmission this year, which has done an impeccable job since its debut.

Better yet, it has significantly increased the towing capacity from 5,000 to 6,000 pounds.

Behind the wheel

Finally, the driving experience has never been better with the QX60. There's a Bose audio system, a 10.8-inch windshield display for head-up display information, ProPILOT with Navi Link that allows for semi-autonomous driving (the vehicle can adjust its settings, for example, when approaching a sharp turn that it spots in advance), as well as safety features that have the effect of reassuring us every time we take the wheel. Most importantly, the chassis is solid and keeps the model firmly planted on the road.

Really, the 2022 QX60 is greatly evolved compared to the 2021 edition. Most importantly, it gives us an idea of what to expect from Infiniti in the coming years.
