Every Infiniti is designed with layers of protection using passive and active safety systems. Many active technologies focus on driver assistance. The available ProPILOT Assist bundles active safety technologies, providing radar and optical equipment and software that interacts with vehicle functions in certain situations.
Some of these technologies help you stay in your lane, while others like Intelligent Cruise Control help your Infiniti maintain a safe distance between other vehicles on the road.
However, features such as the predictive Forward Collision Warning and Forward Emergency Braking extend your control to avoid or mitigate collisions. Here, we explain how these systems initiate and apply automatic braking to help you and others decrease the chance of a collision and the impact should one occur.
The predictive automatic braking system is the world's first system that that can sense the relative velocity and distance of a vehicle directly ahead, but also of a vehicle travelling in front of the preceding one. It basically looks two cars ahead.
How it works
It all begins with an advanced radar system. Using a sensor located at the front of the vehicle, it detects vehicles or even pedestrians in front of you. Software calculates the distance between you and the other vehicle and the speed of both. The system determines the possibility of a collision and may opt to take action or no action, depending on the risk.
A two-stage warning system activates when the risk escalates, including automatic braking. The system alerts the driver using audible and visual signals while pushing the accelerator pedal up. When the pedal is released, partial automatic braking is applied.
If the system determines that a collision is likely, then the system brakes harder to minimize or avoid the impact. If an impact occurs, your Infiniti activates other safety systems to help minimize or even avoid serious injury to you. These may include airbags, seat belt adjustments, and more.
Forward Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection also looks out for people. This is especially important when in a congested area where obstructions may obscure or distract your view of pedestrians. It also provides warnings and applies automatic braking as the risk of collision becomes higher.
Infiniti makes available predictive safety technologies to protect you, your passengers, and others outside your vehicle. Overall, these and other safety measures boost your confidence and add a peace of mind to any trip.
