The Infiniti Q50 is a compact luxury sport sedan that is moving ahead in its segment. Better power, expanded driver assistance features, a new trim level and more reinforce the 2021 model lineup. The award-winning twin-turbo V6 also makes another appearance to provide the Q50 with a 300-400 horsepower range that creates an agile drivetrain and chassis.
Here, we compare the 2021 Q50 to the 2021 BMW 3 Series.
The Infiniti Q50 delivers more power
One of the best-kept secrets of the Q50 is the power of its 3.0-litre, twin-turbo six-cylinder engine. Offered in two variants, it achieves 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque in several models and upgrades to 400 horsepower and 350 lb-ft in the Red Sport I-Line trims.
The 3 series also offers multiple engines, but they just don't add up to the capability of the Q50's lineup. The 330i xDrive adopts a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder that peaks at 255 horsepower, and the hybrid model attains 288 horsepower.
The Q50's premium 400-horsepower engine makes a surprising stand against the 3 Series' top-grade option. The M340i's turbo 3.0-litre six-cylinder peaks at 382 horsepower, falling short of its Infiniti competitor.
Adding more exhilaration, all Q50 models come with standard rear-wheel drive.
The Infiniti Q50 extends comfort
The Infiniti Q50 places a focus on driver and passenger comfort that is reflected in passenger volume in the front and rear seats. In front, the Q50 features 1,003 mm of headroom, a spacious 1,130 mm of legroom, and 1,440 mm of shoulder room.
Each of these measurements are greater than what the 3 Series offers, with legroom as the largest difference (+63 mm). Add in the renowned zero-gravity seats that add spinal and other consistent support, and the Q50 is like another home away from home.
The Q50's entertainment system also features Android Auto/Apple CarPlay and Wi-Fi hotspot in all models. Infiniti's ProASSIST driver assistance package is now also standard in three out of four trim grades, delivering a slew of technologies that are absent or optional on the 3 Series.
Finally, the Q50 is more affordable than the BMW 3 Series. With a starting price of $46,202 compared to the 3 Series $49,350 MSRP, the Q50 is better equipped – and adds a lot more value.
