Infiniti has added an SUV to its lineup this spring, the new QX55. Carrying on the spirit of the legendary FX introduced nearly 20 years ago, the newcomer comes with dramatic coupe styling and a recipe that only Infiniti knows how to deliver a luxury experience that is unique across the industry.
Let's see what this model has in store for us.
Three well-equipped versions
First of all, the lineup is composed of three well-equipped versions: LUXURY, ESSENTIAL ProASSIST and SENSORY.
The former comes standard with a sunroof, heated front seats, a host of safety features, and fast 4G LTE connectivity. The latter can serve seven different WiFi connections.
As for safety, the following are included: emergency braking system with pedestrian detection, reverse emergency braking system, intelligent forward collision warning system, high beam assist headlights, lane departure warning system, blind spot warning system and cross traffic alert system.
As you can see, Infiniti didn't compromise on this front.
Upgrading to the ESSENTIAL ProASSIST variant adds navigation, leather seats, Around View, intelligent cruise control, and a Bose audio system with 16 speakers.
And in terms of safety, two other features are added to the offer: a blind spot intervention system and lane departure prevention.
Finally, the Sensory model comes with semi-aniline leather interior, wood trim, automatic climate control (three zones), a motion-sensing tailgate, and a head-up display.
All this in a cocoon with a spectacular asymmetrical design that is strikingly rich.
VC-Turbo
Under the hood, Infiniti calls upon its jewel, the 2.0-liter VC-Turbo 4-cylinder engine. This engine, which offers a variable compression ratio, is capable of delivering maximum power when needed (268 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque), but operates in economy mode when a smoother ride is called for, a result of the compression ratio adjustment, but also of the work of the model's continuously variable transmission. The result is spectacular, with ratings of 10.5 L/100 km in the city and 8.3 L/100 km on the highway, all for a combined 9.5 L/100 km.
And, of course, it's always fun to drive. The QX55 is fresh off the lot and is waiting for you to take it for a spin.
